Dorothy P. Schmidt

Dorothy Schmidt, 91, died peacefully on May 1, 2018 in Round Rock, Texas. Dorothy was born on April 19, 1927 in Bridgeport, Ct. to Burton Platt and Agnes Brennan. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Central High School. She met her husband, Elmer Schmidt at the Ritz Ballroom where they danced to the Big Band music of the forties. They married in 1948 and were devoted to each other until Elmer passed in 2016. They had two children: Mark, who passed in 2016, and Mary, a resident of Round Rock, Texas. Her son in law, Gary, was like a second son to her. Dorothy had two grandchildren, Matt and Colleen Doyle who adored her as much as she loved them. She will be dearly missed. Dorothy was a wonderful woman. She was a stay at home mom who loved her husband and children. She loved to bake and enjoyed her role as a homemaker. She was a good friend and neighbor, a loyal wife and an outstanding mother. Dorothy was kind, loving and compassionate. She loved children and animals. She was an avid reader and a loyal patron of the Bridgeport Public Library. She was a devout Catholic and her Faith gave her guidance and comfort. Dorothy moved to Round Rock Texas in 2014 and lived with her husband at the Cottages of Chandler Creek. Her life was changed by her diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease and spent the last years of her life coping with it’s effects. However, the disease did not affect her spirit as she could be found buzzing around in her wheelchair looking for chocolate. She was lovingly cared for by the staff of the Cottages and we thank them for their support of Dorothy and her family. We also appreciate Shelley from Hospice Austin and the caretakers from Cella Bella.
