Edna Z. McNamara, age 100 of Monroe, died peacefully and with her family at her side on July 24, 2022. Born on August 6, 1921 in Bridgeport where she lived for almost 75 years, she lived the remainder of her adult life in Monroe before moving to Middlebrook Farms assisted living residence in Trumbull. She was a controller and chief accountant for Clover Farms Dairy in Bridgeport and held a number of civil service positions with the City of Bridgeport including more than 30 years as Registrar of Vital Statistics before retiring to spend more time with her family. Blessed with a keen mind for numbers and a strong sense of business and organization, Edna’s supervision of Vital Statistics set a standard of excellence acknowledged state-wide.
She is predeceased by her husband, Paul K. McNamara; siblings, Fred Zwierlein, Agnes Reynolds, Fran Zwierlein, and Robert Zwierlein; and beloved daughter-in-law Patricia S. McNamara. She is survived by her loving children, Dr. Paul S. McNamara of Monroe and Thomas B. McNamara and his husband, Tony Cook, of Winter Park, FL and Ridgefield, CT; two grandchildren, Dr. Paul S. McNamara, Jr. and his wife, Julie McNamara, of Stormville, NY and Jennifer McNamara Unger and her husband, Adam Unger, of Monroe, CT; seven precious great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, and Eric Unger, and Gavin, Allison, Jack, and Aiden McNamara, whom she loved with all of her heart; sister-in-law, Beverly Zwierlein of Monroe; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
