Grace E. Kimball

Grace E. Kimball, age 96, died in Derry, NH on July 23, 2021 one week after the death of her twin sister, Doris M. Laffan.  Grace was born on May 5, 1925 to John C. Laffan and Elizabeth M. Laffan in Brooklyn, NY. She received a B.A. in Mathematics from the College of Mount St. Vincent in 1947.

She was married to William J. Kimball for 42 years and had 8 children.  They began their lives together in Flushing, NY and raised their children in Pittsfield, MA, Rensselear, NY, Bridgeport, CT, and Higganum, CT.

After raising her children, Grace had a 10 year career as an administrative assistant in the Haddam-Killingworth education system. Grace was gifted at braiding wool and made a number of lovely rugs for the homes of her family.  She enjoyed playing cards with family and the women of Birch Heights where she lived with her twin sister.  Grace loved her family and enjoyed receiving their visits, photos, letters, and phone calls.

She was a devoted to the Catholic Church and volunteered as a librarian for a decade at St. Mary’s Academy and College in St. Mary’s, KS.  Grace was especially proud of her son, two grandsons and a granddaughter who have all chosen catholic vocations.

Grace is preceded in death by her daughter Peggy, husband William, brother Robert, son David, and twin sister Doris.  She is survived by her children, Stephen Kimball, Doris Hohensee, John Kimball, Michael Kimball, William Kimball, Rev. Paul Kimball, 28 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and her sister Elizabeth Doyle and her brother Jack Laffan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, celebrated at Christ the King Church, 209 Tackora Trail, Ridgefield, CT.  A rosary will be said at 10 AM prior to Mass.  Interment to follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
