John Raymond Leverty, age 85 of Fairfield passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of sixty-two years, Mary Louise (Spellman); his children, Mary Anne Heine (William) of Fairfield, John Jr. (Kathy) of Fairfield, Raymond (Caroline) of Severna Park, MD and Tom (Denise) of Fairfield. John will also be fondly remembered by his eight grandchildren, Connor (Reilly), Maddie, Jane, Brianna, Iris, Jack, Patrick and Mary Katherine; his sisters Mary Leverty and Adele McKenna; his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. John was born on October 25, 1932; he is a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School and The College of the Holy Cross. Upon college graduation he worked in their family business The Leverty and Hurley Co. and ended his career at O& G Industries. John was a former member at Brooklawn Country Club and The Fairfield Beach Club. John served on numerous boards throughout his life, The Thomas Merton House, Goodwill Industries, Southwest Community Health Center, The Mercy Learning Center, and Fairfield College Preparatory School. John’s family wishes to thank the special caregivers at Shamrock Home Health Care and Connecticut Hospice.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:30a.m., meeting directly in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends may call Friday 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m., in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
