John F. Nilan

John (Jack) Nilan, age 67 of Shelton, beloved husband of 42 years of Michele Rose Nilan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30th, 2022, just two days shy of his 68th birthday, in his home surrounded by his devoted family. Jack was born in Bridgeport, CT, son of Robert and Joan Sirotnak Nilan of Shelton. Jack was a Computer Science & Math Teacher for almost 40 years in the Bridgeport public school system, spending the majority of his career at Central Magnet High School, where he was very proud of his students’ success in the AP program that he expanded. He was a passionate UConn Huskies and New York Yankees fan, loved to hike & birdwatch, and enjoyed playing cards and golf with his friends and family. Jack was also a passionate basketball, baseball, and soccer coach for his children’s teams, and also coached various teams at Central High School over the years. He was a fan of cinema and enjoyed reviewing films in his spare time, and treasured vacationing in Cape Cod every year with his extended family. In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by his loving children, Kira Nilan of Washington DC, Christopher Nilan & wife Emma of Margaretville NY, Sean Nilan of Shelton, Robert  Nilan & girlfriend Courtney Quick of Milford. His greatest joy was becoming a grandfather 8 months ago to Lucy, whom he absolutely adored. Survivors also include sister-in-law Margaret Nilan of Trumbull, brother Greg Nilan and his wife Diana of Monroe, sister-in-law Maureen Toth & her husband Bob of Litchfield, brother-in-law Frank Rose & his wife Debbie of Muskego WI, brother-in-law Andrew Rose & his wife Rhonda of Johnstown PA, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Terence and Michael, niece Colleen, father Robert Nilan, and mother- and father-in-law Marie and Frank Rose. The family will hold a visitation on Wednesday, July 6th, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., at Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 7th, at 10:00 a.m, meeting directly at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave, Shelton with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.
