Josephine (“Jo”) DiCamillo Amiot, age 94, died peacefully after a long and courageous struggle   on July 15 at The Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield.  A lifelong resident of Bridgeport, she was born on January 26, 1928 to Palmina (DeProfio) and John DiCamillo.  Jo was predeceased by her two brothers Dominic of Fairfield and Raymond of Avon and by her sisters Theresa Verrilli of Bridgeport and Janet Shaughnessy, Pasadena, CA.  as well as by her niece Pamila Verrilli Korchman.  Survived by her loving children, Janet Amiot of Bridgeport, (Rev.) Ronald J. Amiot, S.J., New York City, and Thomas Amiot of Carlsbad, CA, as well as nine nephews and nieces and ten great nephews and nieces.

A graduate of Bridgeport Catholic schools, early in her work life, Jo enjoyed one of her first jobs as a buyer for the D.M. Read’s Department Store located in downtown Bridgeport, where she earned a reputation for her eye for quality merchandise and her talent for bargaining with vendors for a better price.  In later life, her love for tag-sales and Dollar Stores was notorious.  After a long work history as an administrative assistant in legal, insurance and medical offices, she eagerly embraced and thoroughly enjoyed retirement, increasing her participation in parish choir, her garden club displaying her award-winning talent for flower arrangements, family events.  She enjoyed nothing more than keeping in close touch with friends, old and new, near and far, cherishing her friendships across the many decades since their days together in grade school.
