Tribute

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Katherine ("Kathy") Anne MacKinnon Wilson, 76, on Saturday June 5, 2021, after a long brave struggle with illness. She was surrounded by loved ones including her husband of 51 years, Leslie Wilson and her daughter Christine Wilson Beck of Naples, Florida.

Kathy was born on April 8, 1945 in New York, NY to the late Estelle Cooney and Oliver Perry MacKinnon. She was raised in Nichols, Connecticut and has been a resident of Hamden for over 45 years, most recently of Charlton Hill.

Kathy graduated from Trumbull High School and went on to chase her dreams of helping others.  She received a scholarship from Yale’s Grace New Haven School of Nursing.  After she graduated, she had a long and successful career as an RN. Courageous and kind beyond description, she devoted her life to the love and care of all beings. She worked at Yale New Haven Hospital, Connecticut Mental Health Center, and  Elmcrest Psychiatric Hospital. Kathy then turned her attention to those who needed her most, providing individualized care as a private duty nurse for over 20 years. She was a member of the Unitarian Society of New Haven where she chaired the Caring Committee for many years.

Kathy was predeceased by her brother Oliver ("Mack") Perry MacKinnon, Jr. She is survived by her loving sister-in-law Anne MacKinnon, her nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Oliver, Abigail and William, many grand nieces and nephews, her daughter Sarah Shaffer of Landsdowne PA and her two grandsons Reilly and Mason.

Kathy’s warm smile and caring heart will be missed by all. May her soul be bound up in the casket of life.

A memorial service in celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in her name to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. in Branford Connecticut.
