Mary Biggins

March 29, 2018

Tribute

Mary Biggins passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport.  She was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Daly) Flanigan.  She was 97 years old. Mary McCarthy Flanigan was born in Mossend, Lanarkshire, Scotland and was an only child.  She immigrated with her parents to the Unites States as a baby.  Her mother died when Mary was only three years old and at the age of five she was sent back to Scotland to be raised by her paternal grandmother.  During World War II, Mary did war work in Corby, England which included work in a steel mill and with munitions.  When she returned to Scotland she worked for Mr. Hugh Biggins at the Calder Bar in Mossend where she met her future husband, Bob Biggins.  They were married for 66 years until Bob’s death in 2014.  In 1951 the family immigrated to the United States and lived in Bridgeport for 5 years before moving to Easton where she lived for 61 years. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was an “adopted” grandmother to many.  Although primarily a home maker, Mary worked at times outside the home and was the receptionist and dental assistant for her husband for many years. In 2013, Mary and her husband Bob were awarded the Saint Augustine Medal of Service for generous service to the Church in the Diocese of Bridgeport.  She was deeply devoted to her faith and for many years was a daily communicant at Notre Dame of Easton Church. Mary is survived by daughters Beth Quinlan and husband Paul, Zita Kachadourian and husband Arthur, Mary Kate McGoldrick and husband Bill, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Mary is also survived by her longtime friend Marjory Harkins. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jacquie Krofssik, husband Bob Biggins and son Robert Biggins. The family wishes to thank her caring aids, Rose and AnnMarie.  Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30am meeting directly in Notre Dame of Easton Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to Notre Dame of Easton Church, 655 Morehouse Road, Easton, CT 06612.
