Matthew L. Siwy, age 72 of Stratford, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020, in Bridgeport Hospital. Matt was born and raised in Bridgeport, where he attended Notre Dame High School, and later earned his bachelor’s degree at Sacred Heart University by attending night classes while working full-time and helping to raise three children. Between diploma and degree, he served in the Navy, spending his active duty from 1967 to 1969 aboard the destroyer tender U.S.S. Grand Canyon.
He was proud to serve as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 68 in Trumbull, during which time he delighted in playing the Voice of the Eagle in numerous Eagle Scout award ceremonies, and delighted somewhat less in the process of earning multiple Year-Round Camper patches. He also took great pride in being a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow.
He was an avid reader, setting an example his children have honored into their adulthood, and a lover of doo-wop and rock n’ roll who never forgave the British Invasion for making electric guitars more fashionable than horns in popular music.
He is survived by his children Steven L. Siwy and partner Eliza Wallace, Eric C. Siwy and wife Moriah Cohen, all of Philadelphia; Kathleen Durand and husband David of Bridgeport; his grandchildren Jack Durand and Ezra Siwy; and his brother Kenneth J. Siwy and wife Priscillas of Stratford.
In lieu of flowers, he may be honored with a donation to Boy Scout Troop 68 in Trumbull, via PayPal to email@example.com or via a personal check made out to BSA Troop 68 and sent to Troop 68 Scoutmaster, 47 Parkway Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611
