Dr. Stephen Paul Harris, 66, of Hamden, died on Friday, November 23, 2018, in Yale New Haven Hospital in the arms of his wife and sons.  He was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on January 11, 1952, the only child of Kenneth and Elizabeth Harris.  He was predeceased by his father Kenneth and his beloved brother-in-law, John Henry Redgate.  He is survived by his wife Alicia (Redgate) Harris, his sons Paul and Russell of New Haven, his mother Betty of Waterbury, and his cherished dog Oakley. He also leaves his Redgate brother-in-law Russ and sister-in-law Patty, five nephews, three nieces, three great nieces, one great nephew, his Goddaughter, and several Harris cousins, including Mary and Sandy, to whom he was very close. Steve graduated from the McCallie Military School in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1970, received a BS from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1974, University of Monterrey Medical School in Monterrey, Mexico in 1982 and State University of New York Stony Brook at Nassau Hospital in 1983.  He began his Surgical Residency in July 1983 at St. Vincent's Medical Center where he met Alicia.  After completing the five year program in June of 1988 and taking his Boards, he was licensed as Surgeon/Physician.  In 1989, again sitting for Boards, he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.).  Steve practiced surgery at St. Vincent's until 1994.  He then accepted an invitation to open a practice in Southington.  After years of General Surgery, Dr. Harris was certified in Excellence by the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians and became the Medical Director of Allied Medical Associates in Waterbury.  He closed the office on January 1, 2018 and retired. Throughout Steve's medical and professional career, his kind, gentle, southern manner was a comfort to everyone, and he was loved by his thousands of patients and their families.  His greatest joy in life was his family and supporting the extraordinary talents and musical path his sons have chosen.  His love of God sustained him his entire life.
