Sylvia Morando Chateauneuf

November 27, 1933 ~ January 3, 2021 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Sylvia Morando Chateauneuf, age 87 of Trumbull, CT passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 in her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Leo G. Chateauneuf, and is survived by her loving daughters, Paula Chateauneuf and her partner Pavlo Beznosiuk of London, England, and Cora Chateauneuf Singer of Milford. She is also survived by her grandson Andre Singer of Milford.  In addition, she is survived by her sister Angelina Schaivone, her brother Louis Morando and his wife Patricia, brothers- and sisters-in-law Ernest and Ann Chateauneuf and Yvonne and Charles Ross, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law David Singer.

Born and raised in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of Ettore and Catherine Segala Morando. She was raised among a large, extended, loving Italian family with which she was very close and took great pride in throughout her life. After graduating from Bassick High School, she worked for Dictaphone Corporation until her marriage and became a stay-at-home mother to raise her children. In addition to creating a loving and warm home life and raising her family with Leo, she was a skilled seamstress and lovingly made many of her children's clothes (and their doll's clothes!) and also enjoyed cross stitching. She was an expert cook and her spaghetti sauce, meatballs, and fresh pasta were second to none, along with her Christmas cookies. When her children were a bit older, she worked out of her home for a court reporter transcribing his court records, and when the family was grown she worked at Sacred Heart University in the admissions office. She had amassed a loyal following of friends who loved and cherished her and will miss her terribly. She and Leo also did some travelling to their "home" lands of Italy, Canada, and France and explored the United States. She happily enjoyed time with her "bonus" grands Aaron and Rebecca Singer when they were children, and her grandson Andre Singer was a light in her life. She was able to spend time caring for him when he was young, was instrumental in helping to raise him, and took great delight to be in his presence as much as possible even in the last difficult months of her life.

The family is very grateful to Dr. David Witt and the team at Yale Smilow, Trumbull, Dr. Ramsey Saba of Orthopedic Specialty Group, Fairfield, her caregivers from Comfort Keepers especially Clover, Kaydene and Debbie, Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice Team, and caregiver Faith. Also Meals on Wheels of Greater Bridgeport and everyone who reached out to keep in touch with Sylvia and help as best they could in light of the current restrictions during the past year. All this care and love helped her get through a difficult year and was immensely appreciated.
