Thomas P. Nilan, Sr., age 96 of Trumbull, beloved husband of Shirley Lucas Nilan, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 in his home. Thomas was born in Bridgeport son of the late Patrick and Anna Cody Nilan and was a lifelong Bridgeport resident, most recently residing in Shelton and Trumbull. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a military policeman. Thomas had a long career with the United Illuminating Company, was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing golf. He cheered for the New York Yankees and the Women’s UCONN Basketball Team, but most of all loved spending time with his family. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children Kevin T. Nilan of Bridgeport, Thomas P. Nilan Jr. and wife Robin of Murphy North Carolina, John Patrick of New York City and David Patrick and wife Paulette of Shelton, Marylou Angell and husband Curtis of Trumbull, Noreen Kusheba and husband Paul of Fairfield and Geraldine Brown and husband Doug of Centreville, Virginia, his grandchildren; Katelyn Angell and wife Kelly, Kerri Joller and husband Jens, Kylie Angell, Adam, Christopher and Joseph Patrick, Ryan and Taylor Nilan, Anna and Timothy Brown, a great grandson Jasper Joller and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Corbo Nilan, a son Patrick J. Nilan, brothers and sisters John, James and Robert Nilan, Nora Bergen and Ann Tartaro. Funeral services will be held Monday, at 11:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
