Wanda Lapinski Hannafey

Wanda Lapinski Hannafey, age 87, a longtime resident of Jupiter, FL, peacefully entered her eternal rest in Smyrna, GA on May 4, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Trumbull, on December 16, 1930 to Thomas and Mary Lapinski, Wanda was united in marriage for 60 years to Francis J. Hannafey. The happy couple lived first in Bridgeport, for several years, before moving to Monroe, where they raised four children. As devout Catholics, Wanda and Frank were active members of Saint Jude Catholic Church in Monroe for many years before they moved to Jupiter in 1989, where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement, full of travel and time spent with their beloved family. Mrs. Hannafey was a 1948 graduate of Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport. She worked in banking for several years at and it is through her work that she met her husband. After they married on August 31, 1957, Wanda became a fulltime mother and homemaker, devoting herself completely to her family. She enjoyed travel, fine dining, reading, crossword puzzles, fitness and exercise, but most of all, spending time with her family. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Francis J. Hannafey, as well as four children and their spouses: Fr. Francis T. Hannafey, S.J. of Fairfield; Brian P. Hannafey of Smyrna, GA; Karen (Hannafey) Diaz and her husband Eugene, of Acworth, GA; and David J. Hannafey and his wife Krista, of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by five beloved grandchildren, Kylie Hannafey, James Hannafey, and Regan Hannafey, all of Marietta, GA; and Kristina Diaz and Brandon Diaz of Acworth, GA. Wanda also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, and all three of her sisters, Irene Lapinski, Tess Lapinski Walsh, and Rose Lapinski Yates. Family will receive friends at Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna, GA from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, May 10, 2018, and a funeral mass will be celebrated by Mrs. Hannafey’s son, Fr. Francis T. Hannafey, at 11:00am on Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Smyrna, GA.  Family will receive friends at Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Directors, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, from 11:00am-1:00pm on Monday, May 14, 2018. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull, following a graveside service on Monday, May 14 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
