William H. Peet, Jr., age 97 of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Margaret A. Curry Peet, passed away, Friday, January 7, 2022, in his home. William (Bill) was born in Bristol, son of the late William H. Peet Sr., and Ellen Holmes Peet and was a longtime area resident. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Navy from 1943 through the end of the war, having witnessed the signing of the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in early 1946, Bill returned home and shortly thereafter began a long career with Sikorsky Aircraft, from where he retired in 1986 as a Foreman.
Bill was an avid sports fan and loved watching UCONN Men’s & Women’s Basketball as well as professional golf and his beloved Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He also enjoyed listening to Big Band music whenever he wasn’t watching sports or old Western movies on TV. However the joy of his life was his family and supporting them in every way he could, particularly by attending his son’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events from childhood through college.
Survivors include his devoted son William H. Peet, III and wife Anita of Monroe, two cherished grandchildren Melissa Peet and William H. Peet, IV, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leroy and Robert Whitham.
