William J. Walsh, 94, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2018 after a long and beautiful life. He was born August 25, 1923 in Fairfield, CT to J. Joseph Walsh and Lucie Prevot. Bill was predeceased by his wife Joan, his sister Lucie Ringel, and brother Joseph Walsh. After proudly serving in the Pacific with the US Army during World War II, Bill earned a BS from the University of Connecticut and a Master’s Degree from Columbia Teachers College. He married his beloved Joan in 1952 and together they raised their family in Trumbull. Bill taught mathematics and coached basketball and baseball at Norwalk Technical College until his retirement. He was very involved with Trumbull youth athletics, from coaching his children’s teams, serving as president of Trumbull Little League and later as president of THS Booster Club, and also serving many years as the assistant summer recreation director for the Town of Trumbull. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed golfing with the senior men at Tashua Knolls during his retirement years, and he always enjoyed spending time in his garden and watching the UCONN women’s basketball team. His faith was important to him and he lived this by serving breakfast at the Thomas Merton House as well as teaching religious school with Joan and serving as one of the original Eucharistic ministers at Christ the King Church. His actions were always guided by his lifelong desire to leave the world a better place. But his greatest joy came from his children and their children. He is survived by Elizabeth “Beth” Walsh of Trumbull, William M. (Nancy) Walsh of Trumbull, James (Debbi) Walsh of Oberlin, OH, David (Mary Ellen) Walsh of Chantilly, VA, Matthew (Joanne) Walsh of Wolfeboro, NH, and Mary (Matthew) Klesyk of Ansonia; his grandchildren William “Ben” Walsh, Michaela Durand, Meaghan Gorman, Jonathon Walsh, Zachary Walsh, Alexandra Walsh, Kyle Klesyk, and Colin Klesyk. He also delighted in being “big” Papa to his great-grandchildren Maggie, Liam, Finnean, Ethan, and Willow. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00am meeting directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call Tuesday 4-8pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
