Marion Wickert Gottschalk, age 89, of Milford, beloved wife of the late George M. Gottschalk, Jr. passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 with her loving family by her side at Lord Chamberlain, Stratford. Marion was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Gustave and Mary Glynn Wickert and was a Bridgeport resident before moving to Milford in 1985. During World War II, she worked for the General Electric Company. Marion was a life-long member of St. Patrick Parish and was a member of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help Women’s Guild. She was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, UCONN basketball, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots. Survivors include her devoted children, Mike Gottschalk and wife Linda of Seymour, Mark Gottschalk of Milford, Paul Gottschalk and wife Diane of Shelton, Cathy Christensen and husband David of Milford and Joan Sagalski and husband Bill of Seymour. Grandma “Wickie” to seven grandchildren, Christa Ventura and husband John, Lisa Dulka and husband Dave, Robert Gottschalk, Jennifer Gregory and husband Christian, Gregg Christensen, Tommy Gottschalk, and Rachel Gottschalk, G.G. to five cherished great grandchildren, Karlie Gottschalk, Austin Dulka, Alex Gregory, Olivia Gregory, Lucas Ventura, two sisters-in-law Rita Wickert of Bridgeport and Marian Wickert of Texas, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers William, Lawrence, and Donald Wickert and a sister-in-law, Muriel Wickert. The family would like to thank Marion’s neighbors, Jim, Mike, Bernie, and Mike for all their care and support, also to her caregivers, present and past, Renata, Marzena, Deina, Anne, and Debbie, and the staff at Lord Chamberlain and Milford Hospital. Marion’s extended family was Jeff and the crew at Mr. Mac’s Canteen where she was fondly known as “Mom.” Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00a.m., meeting directly in St. Patrick Church, 851 North Avenue, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion’s name to the Donnelly Scholarship at Fairfield University in memory of her niece and nephew, Kim and Tim Donnelly. Make checks payable to Fairfield University, 1073 North Benson Road, Fairfield, CT 06824. Include Marion’s name and Donnelly Scholarship in the memo section.
